I will be judged by the party, says Tsipras

SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras refuted speculation that he may step down from the helm of the main opposition after suffering a second defeat in Sunday's ballot. 

"I will be judged the members of the party," Tsipras said in comments at SYRIZA headquarters in downtown Athens, indicating that a congress will be called within the next few months to decide on the leftists' fate.

SYRIZA shifts on diaspora vote

Following a session of its political secretariat Friday, the main leftist opposition SYRIZA party shifted position on New Democracy's initiative to grant full voting rights to diaspora Greeks, indicating that it could compromise on the basis of proposals made by the Communist Party (KKE) and the MeRA25 party of former leftist finance minister Yanis Varoufakis.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday achieved consensus with some party leaders on his government's plan to grant Greeks living abroad full voting rights but not with the leader of the main leftist opposition Alexis Tsipras, who rejected the basis of the initiative, which is the equality of each vote. 

New snags to Elliniko project amid objections over artifacts

The already delayed development of the site of the capitals' former international airport at Elliniko faces new setbacks following a fresh legal appeal against the project and a joint objection raised by 18 MPs of leftist SYRIZA related to the possible presence of ancient artifacts in the area.
