Firefighter chosen word of 2022
Firefighter has been voted the Slovenian word of 2022 in recognition of the role that firefighters played in combating a massive wildfire in the Kras region in the summer.
Firefighter received 1,032 votes from the public to win ahead of freedom, which makes part of the name of the ruling party and which won 772 votes.

2022 sets record fire activity in southwest Europe: EU

Halkidiki fire brought under partial control
A wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a forested area of Sithonia, one of the three peninsulas of Halkidiki, northern Greece, was brought under partial control a few hours later, the fire service said.
A 30-strong team of firefighters with 11 vehicles is in the area of Pigadakia since the start of the blaze.
