In April 2020, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) has started a monthly inquiry survey of the managers of accommodation establishments to gather accurate and timely information on the state and development of their businesses during the state of emergency in the country.

A population and housing census test will be conducted by the NSI in the spring. This is recorded in the National Statistical Program for 2020, adopted today by the Council of Ministers.

The survey precedes the actual census, which will be conducted across the European Union in 2021.

New residential buildings completed in Bulgaria in the second quarter of 2019 increased by 10.5% on the year to 632, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Thursday, reports SeeNews. 

The total useful space of newly built dwellings decreased 2.5% year-on-year to 201,700 sq m in the period between April and June, NSI said in a statement.

Whether the summer tourist season is successful or weaker than in the recent years remains to be seen, but the data for the first days of the most active summer month of August show that 88% of all seaside hotels were occupied on August 3rd, and 68% of the full month is already booked, according to preliminary data from the Institute for Analysis and Evaluation in Tourism.

Under 7 million people is now the population of Bulgaria. This was made clear by the words of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) management, who today presented the demographic picture in the country up to December 31, 2018. According to the data at that date, the Bulgarians were 7 000 039 people, but the lasting trends show that to date we are certainly below that figure.

Bulgaria's consumer sentiment index increased by 1.9 percentage points at the end of January as compared to the previous consumer survey in October last year, due to a strong improvement in confidence among rural population, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday, quoted by SEE News. 

The government has approved the draft of a population and housing census act for 2021, reported the Bulgarian National Television. The reference date to which the data collected during the counting will relate is January 22, 2021.

Total revenue from tourist overnights spent in Bulgaria rose by 11.5% year-on-year to 49.9 million levs ($28.9 million/25.5 million euro) in October, the country's statistical office, NSI, said on Wednesday.

For the period January-September this year, 7,903,692 foreigner tourists visited Bulgaria, or a 5.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI), said the press office of the Ministry of Tourism, reports Focus News Agency
