New Azerbaijan Party

Turkey on Feb. 9 welcomed the peaceful voting in Azerbaijan.

"We wish that the parliamentary elections held today will be auspicious for brotherly Azerbaijan," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It also congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) under his leadership, for their election success.

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, in office since succeeding his father in 2003, has been nominated as the ruling party’s candidate in the presidential election in October, the party executive secretary said on Feb .1.

President Ilham Aliyev's ruling party is poised to sweep the board in a parliamentary election in Azerbaijan on Nov. 1, a vote the mainstream opposition and international monitors are shunning.
