Fifty years after the founding of New Democracy by Konstantinos Karamanlis, the party, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, returns to its historic headquarters on Rigillis Street for a unity gathering that addresses all generations of the party.

Members of the New Democracy parliamentary group were briefed on Thursday afternoon by Health Minister Adonis Georgiades on issues within his remit.

The closed session is part of the regular briefings that the members of the government have started to the “blue” MPs to better coordinate the legislative work.

It has been 50 years since the founding declaration of New Democracy on October 4, 1974. The declaration was signed solely by Konstantinos Karamanlis, just two and a half months after his return to Greece, following 11 years of self-imposed “exile” in Paris. Thus, the party was established, which, along with PASOK, became the two main pillars of the post-dictatorial Greek Republic.

Nadia Giannakopoulou proposes a shift to the center, stressing that PASOK aims to express “the impoverished middle class and the most vulnerable citizens” with clear positions and initiatives.

It is widely known that in Greece politicians are afraid of political debates.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has reached out to former prime ministers Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras in a bid to foster unity within the New Democracy party ahead of its 50th anniversary celebration. The personal invitations come as the party prepares for a gathering at its historic headquarters on Rigillis Street on Friday, marking a significant milestone in its history.

The initiative to invite the two former prime ministers, Kosta Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras, to the governing party‘s birthday event at the Rigillis next Friday was taken yesterday by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, calling the two former Prime Ministers.

The six PASOK leaders’ candidates appear ready for the first “half-time” of the race, attempting in the 24 hours remaining until next Sunday to “open up” to wider audiences and attract as many undecided voters as possible around their candidacy.

During his introductory remarks at the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the government’s decision to end lenient criminal treatment for those who return stolen goods. He also spoke extensively about youth delinquency and how it will be addressed.
