Support for Independence High in Scotland, EU Popularity Plummets

When answering a question whether they prefer independence, self-government within the framework of the United Kingdom or not to have a Scottish Parliament at all, 46% of the Scottish people said independence. This is the highest rate of support for the separation of Scotland since 1999 when the idea was put forward for the first time.

Brexit Can Go Ahead After House of Lords Votes Bill Through

Parliament has passed the Brexit bill, paving the way for the government to trigger Article 50 so the UK can leave the European Union.

Peers backed down over the issue of EU residency rights and a meaningful vote on the final Brexit deal after their objections were overturned by MPs, according to Reuters.

The bill is expected to receive Royal Assent and become law on Tuesday.

Scotland To Seek Second Independence Referendum

Scotland will begin consultations on a second referendum on independence, announced the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon.

Scottish nationalist leader Nicola Sturgeon said a second referendum on independence was "more likely than not" in the next five years if she wins an election on May 5 as polls predict. 

The pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) had said  it would not press for another vote on independence until it was clear most Scots wanted to leave the United Kingdom.
