A new law meant to curtail hate speech on social media in Germany is stifling free speech and making martyrs out of anti-immigrant politicians whose posts are deleted, the top-selling Bild newspaper said on Thursday.

US President Barack Obama on June 22 ignited a storm of social media debate when he used a racial epithet in an interview posted online that discussed race relations following the recent  killings of nine black churchgoers. 

Dylann Roof, aged 21, who killed nine people at an African-American church at Charleston, South Carolina, expressed his belief in a manifesto. Accompanying his extreme beliefs are a series of photos that have surfaced showing the gunman burning the flag of the United States and visiting a former slave plantation.

The prosecution offered a plea bargain to two men, accused of an assault on a black woman in Sofia last month, said the human rights NGO Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (BHC).
