Bulgarian archaeologists are to concentrate their efforts on uncovering the acropolis of the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon in the forthcoming months.

This was announced by archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov in an interview for Focus news agency, who claimed that this year would be decisive for the completion of Perperikon.

The oldest preserved Cyrillic inscription was discovered at the "All Bulgarian Saints" rock monastery near the village of Krepcha in the Bulgarian municipality of Opaka.

According to prominent Bulgarian archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov, the inscription was made by the monk Antoniy in 921, who had most likely founded the monastery, Darik radio reports.

The archaeological excavations at the Perperikon site in south eastern Bulgaria will continue next year, the head of the archaeological team Nikolay Ovcharov told journalists, quoted by BTA.

This season the team studied the buildings' reconstruction pattern from the Antiquity through the Middle Ages.

Bulgarian archaeologist Nikolai Ovcharov and his team unearthed the ruins of a medieval tavern in the town of Misioni, near the town of Turgovishte in north eastern Bulgaria.

At a news conference Ovcharov said that the archaeological dig found the remains of 10 tall and seemingly affluent buildings and the area was called Boyarski residences. 

A model of the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon, located in the Eastern Rhodopes, near Bulgaria's town of Kardzhali, will be showcased in several Belgian cities.
