Pig Farms Affected by African Swine Fever in Rousse Await BGN 1,5 Million Compensation

The three industrial pig farms in Bulgaria's Rousse district where outbreaks of African Swine Fever were registered are awaiting 1.5 million BGN in compensation for the burial of culled animals and disinfection of the sites, reports BNT.

The amount was specified in a public procurement tender called by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. The contractors were selected by negotiations.

In Vidin There Was a Signal of an African Swine Fever in a Private Property

The Regional Food Safety Directorate in Vidin received a signal of a a pig with African swine fever in a private property. The necessary samples have been taken and the results are now expected.

The euthanasia of the pigs in two of the pigs complexes in Russe continues. Two thirds of the animals were killed in the village of Nikolovo, and in the village of Brushlen half.

The culled animals will be buried in the region of the farm. Incoming and outgoing people and vehicles are subject to disinfection.

First Industrial Farm Hit by African Swine Fever in Bulgaria

Bulgarian Food Safety Agency on Saturday confirmed the first outbreak of African swine fever in an industrial farm in the country.

A total of about 17,000 pigs are fattened in the farm, which is located in the village of Nikolovo near Danube River in Ruse Region, the agency said in a statement.

Protest of Taxi Drivers in Russe

In protest march in Ruse taxi drivers from across the country demanded a fair trial for his murdered colleague. The crime was committed a year ago in the village of Nikolovo, and two students were accused for the crime. Taxi drivers have also requested legislative changes to provide them more security while they work.
