Striker Vipotnik transferred to Bordeaux in near record deal
Žan Vipotnik, the Slovenian football league's top scorer last year, is leaving Maribor to continue his career in Bordeaux. The six-time French champions, currently playing in the second division, unofficially paid around €3 million for the 21-year-old international in what could be a record deal for players from the Slovenian league.
Maribor out of contention for Europa League
Helsinki – Slovenian football champions Maribor have failed to qualify for the Europa League, having lost to HJK Helsinki 1:0 in the return leg of the third round of qualifying on Thursday. The score was 3:0 on aggregate.
While Maribor dominated the field, they failed to create scoring opportunities save for a few shots wide from a distance.

As part of the event, attended by more than 150 representatives of European cities, capitals, and associations, active promotion of Maribor and Slovenia as a sports destination took place.
Brazilian Tavares makes Slovenian football history
"I cannot score many goals by myself. This is the result of working with the team, with the coach, the director and the fans. Even Jesus has helped me survive here," Tavares said.
The Brazilian native switched to Slovenia's most successful club from the Cypriot side Apoel in January 2008 and went on to become the absolute home crowd favourite.
