Joint program explores measures to reduce wildfire risk, emissions
Greece, France, and Montenegro have joined forces in a scientific program dubbed MediterRE3 that is aimed at adopting management practices to reduce the risk and extent of wildfires, as well as the resulting carbon emissions.

National Observatory of Athens opposes being moved to Civil Protection
The government's intention to incorporate the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the oldest and one of the largest research institutions in the country, into the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, by cutting it off from the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, where all research centers belong, is coming under fire from the research community.

May was uncharacteristically chilly this year and many part of the country experienced rain on half of the month's days, while short-term forecasts point to wet and cooler days in the first part of June as well.

Weather to take new turn of the worse
The weather is to take a new turn of the worse on Monday, according to the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) which has predicted a wet sweeping into the country from the Ionian, Epirus and the western mainland.
Stormy weather is also forecast for many parts of the country, including much of the mainland and the northern and eastern Aegean, according to the NOA.

Wet weather to spread to Attica, Aegean

June was an electric month for Greece, as the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) recorded 93,580 electrostatic discharges, most of which were lightning strikes, across the country.

Noa Wertheim | Kalamata | July 18
Israeli choreographer Noa Wertheim and her Vertigo ensemble perform at the Kalamata International Dance Festival on Tuesday, July 18, at the city's Dance Megaron. The performance, "Yama" (Pond), was inspired by the movement of water, and addresses the limitations of human relationships and the way we handle adversity.
