North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has dismissed his top general and called for stepping up war preparations "in an offensive way", including boosting weapons production and conducting more drills, state media reported Thursday.

US President Donald Trump has offered North Korean leader Kim Jong-un help in combating the coronavirus, world agencies have reported.

In a letter, Trump has indicated his intention to offer co-operation, saying he was impressed with Kim's efforts to protect his people from the serious threat of the epidemic, according to North Korean news agency KCTA, quoted by Reuters.

China and Russia on Dec. 16 proposed the U.N. Security Council lift a ban on North Korea exporting statues, seafood and textiles, according to a draft resolution seen by Reuters, in a move Russia said is aimed at encouraging talks between Washington and Pyongyang.

A senior U.S. diplomat said on Dec. 16 that Washington won't accept a year-end deadline set by North Korea to make concessions in stalled nuclear talks and urged Pyongyang to return to a negotiating table immediately.
