Kerry calls for US war powers to strike ISIL

Secretary of State John Kerry urged lawmakers Wednesday to give President Barack Obama updated war powers to go after Islamic jihadists at "a pivotal hour" in the battle against the militants.
      
"Our nation is strongest when we act together -- and we simply cannot allow this collection of murderers and thugs to achieve its ambitions," Kerry told Congress.
      

ISIS latest execution, 8 men executed and hung (photos + video)

Eight shia men were executed and hung upside down at Kirkuk in Iraq by ISIS militants. Photos and footage of the horrific crime spread over the internet. The man posing next to the bodies is Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Iraqi. The reason for the crime is that some of the men were wearing uniforms, causing the militants to assume they were soldiers.

500 Turkish truck drivers stuck in Iraq over ISIL risks

Nearly 500 Turkish truckers carrying export goods bound for Iraq have been stuck in the northern province of Kirkuk for a month over security threats from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to drivers.

Drivers, who have been kept on the Kirkuk-Baghdad road, said Iraqi authorities are refusing to unload the goods over concerns about ISIL.
