AKP to hold October workshop on new charter draft

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will convene a workshop in October as part of its efforts to draft a new constitution, deputy leader Hayati Yazıcı told state-run Anadolu Agency on Aug. 19.

The workshop will involve experts and academics specializing in law, public administration, political science and sociology, with the aim of gathering diverse opinions.

Erdoğan vows to bolster Türkiye against quake threat

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has pledged to enhance Türkiye's resilience to earthquakes.

 "We have never forgotten the fact that Türkiye is a country under the threat of earthquakes," Erdoğan said in a message shared on Aug. 17, commemorating the anniversary of the 1999 earthquake in the Marmara region.

Turkish parliament to host Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas

 Türkiye announced on Wednesday plans to invite Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address its parliament.

"If there are no setbacks in the coming days, we will invite Mr. Abbas to the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, where he will present the Palestinian cause before the members of parliament," Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş said.

Turkish parliament condemns 'war criminal' Netanyahu

The Turkish parliament passed a motion condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's fiery speech to the U.S. Congress delivered on July 24, labeling him a "war criminal."

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has expanded his consultations to discuss the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) proposal for a new constitution.
