Turkey will raise the number of custom gates with Iraq to four in order to feed the increasing demand triggered by surging trade with its neighbor, Customs and Trade Minister Nurettin Canikli has announced, despite the ongoing insurgency in Iraq. 

Turkey and Iran should invest in railways to meet trade targets, head of the Association of International Forwarding and Logistics Services Providers (UT?KAD) Turgut Erkeskin has said in reference to a new trade agreement between the two countries.

The truck crisis between Turkey and Iran has been resolved to a large extent by a temporary suspension on sealing Turkish trucks' gas tanks at the Iranian border, and Turkey now expects this suspension to be permanent, said Customs Minister Nurettin Canikli Dec. 13.

Around 33,000 shoes that were brought to Turkey illegally and contained carcinogenic material are already on the market, Customs and Trade Minister Nurettin Canikli has said, adding that a probe has been opened into the incident. 

Former Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan has paid 250,000 Turkish Liras as a customs fine for a much-debated luxury watch, which became one of the symbols of Turkey’s massive corruption probe last December.

Çağlayan paid the 250,000-lira fine that was given by the Customs and Trade Ministry over actions that were contrary to the customs legislation.

Turkey has launched a major operation aimed at bringing down a suspected gang that illegally brought in over 1,000 tons of beef from Paraguay, the customs minister has said, describing the haul as Turkey’s biggest ever smuggling case.
