Official statistics

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased in the first quarter of 2020 by 2.4%, as gross series compared to the similar period of last year, and compared to the previous quarter the increase is of 0.3%, according to the flash estimates published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Friday.

A population and housing census test will be conducted by the NSI in the spring. This is recorded in the National Statistical Program for 2020, adopted today by the Council of Ministers.

The survey precedes the actual census, which will be conducted across the European Union in 2021.

Greece's former statistics chief Andreas Georgiou was awarded a special commendation for "upholding of the highest professional standards" in producing the country's statistics and "in the pursuit of integrity of statistical systems," the International Statistical Institute (ISI) said in a press release.

Turkey, this week, has made a radical change in the way it calculates its gross domestic product (GDP), creating a shock effect both regarding its revised results and methodology. 

Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced the 2nd estimate of the Annual National Accounts for the year 2014 and revised data for the years 2010-2013.

On Sunday, he stepped down, informing Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos of his decision not to accept the extension of his term effective on that day.

Greece’s statistics service (ELSTAT) said on Wednesday that the country’s economy shrank by 3.9 percent last year, correcting a previous revised estimate for 2013 gross domestic product issued in October.

Revised data released by ELSTAT on October 10 had shown a 3.3 percent GDP contraction last year.
