New Contamination after Oil Spill! This Time near Burgas
A small spill of petroleum products is located today at noon near the Burgas Dolno Ezerovo district, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water announced.
On-site equipment has been dispatched, cleaning actions have been taken by pumping the surface layers of the polluted water in the area.
Claims up to 80 mln made due to Salamina oil spill
The United Nations' International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Fund has received claims of up to 80 million euros from those impacted by the oil spill of the Agia Zoni II tanker off the island of Salamina in 2017.
The fund, which is backed by 115 states, has so far approved 10 million euros in aid.

Three beaches reopen on island hit by oil spill
Three beaches on the island of Salamina in the Saronic Gulf, which were heavily polluted following the recent oil spill, were reopened on Tuesday.
The beaches had been closed since the Agia Zoni II tanker sank off the island on September 10, leaking fuel oil into the sea.

It's been over a month since the Agia Zoni II tanker went down off the port of Piraeus and beyond the criminal delays of the political leadership and port authorities in dealing with the ensuing oil spill we still have no answers to the questions surrounding the causes of the accident, even though it's only a matter of time before disaster strikes again.
