Social Democrat Pistorius, Lower Saxony's interior minister since 2013, will replace Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, who resigned on Monday.
Lambrecht resigned after months of criticism over arms shipments to Ukraine and at a time when allies are increasingly demanding that Germany strengthens military aid to Ukraine.

More than 60% of German residents are dissatisfied with the work of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the governing coalition of the Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the Free Democratic Party.

Scholz accuses Russia of blocking gas turbine delivery
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz yesterday accused Russia of blocking the delivery of a turbine needed to keep gas flowing via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Europe.
The unit was "available and working" Scholz said, standing next to the turbine on a visit to the maker Siemens energy.
"There is no reason why this delivery cannot happen," Scholz said.
