World's oldest living person celebrates 118th birthday
Kane Tanaka, a Japanese woman recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person, turned 118 on Jan. 2, according to local media.
Tanaka, born on Jan. 2, 1903, celebrated her 118th birthday at a care facility in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, where she lives, NHK News reported.
World's Oldest Man Dies at 112
Japanese Chitetsu Watanabe was 112 years old. The man from Niigata Prefecture was officially named the oldest man on the planet on February 12, according to the British newspaper Mirror.
Watanabe would be 113 years old in just 11 days. He took the title of the oldest man from another Japanese, Masazo Nonaka, who died at the age of 113 at the end of January.

Japanese Masazo Nonaka Confirmed as World's Oldest Living Man Aged 112
Masazo Nonaka from Japan was recognised today as the world's oldest man at the ripe old age of 112, as his family revealed his secret: sweets and hot baths. Nonaka, who was born on July 25, 1905 — just months before Albert Einstein published his theory of special relativity — received a certificate from Guinness World Records at home on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.

Oldest person in the world dies, aged 116
The eldest human in the world (with proof) Jeralean Talley passed away, in Michigan, 26 days after celebrating her 116th birthday, according to a family representative.
Talley was born on May 23, 1899 in Georgia and was the oldest person in the world with verified records, after Gertrude Weaver’s death in April.

American woman dies at 116, days after becoming world's oldest person
Days after becoming the world's oldest person, American Gertrude Weaver has died at the age of 116, US media reported.
Weaver died Monday morning of complications from pneumonia, reports said.
Weaver passed away at the Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in the southern state of Arkansas, local TV station KATV reported.
World's oldest woman turns 117 in Japan
The world's oldest person Misao Okawa, a mother of three, grandmother of four and great-grandmother of six, turned 117 on March 5 in western Japan.
Okawa, one of only a handful of people born in the 19th century and still alive "is looking in good shape," an official at her Osaka nursing home told AFP.
