Turkey witnesses 251 femicides in a year: Minister
Turkey has witnessed some 251 femicides in a year as of Nov. 15, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said in a video-conference meeting with governors of all 81 provinces.
"The number of femicides in the whole of 2020 was 268. It seems that the number [of femicides] in 2021 will surpass that of last year," Soylu noted.

Lawyers appeal arrest of Turkish daily Sözcü journalists
Two lawyers for the opposition Turkish daily newspaper Sözcü on June 2 appealed to a higher court over the arrest of two journalists as part of the investigation into the July 2016 failed coup attempt, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Court arrests two Turkish daily Sözcü staff over Gülen links
A criminal court in Istanbul late on May 26 ordered the arrest of two employees of critical daily sözcü on charges of assisting Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETO), according to court records seen by Anadolu Agency. Turkish critical daily Sözcü has published a "May 19 Press Freedom Special Edition," left blank to protest the detentions of some staff members.
The May 19 edition of the daily carried empty columns with writers' names and also left the weather section blank.
It was a response to the May 18 detentions of Mediha Olgun, the editor of Sözcü's website, and reporter Gökmen Ulu.
Abducted Turkish ship crew freed
Six Turkish personnel who were abducted on April 11 from their ship off Nigeria's Port Harcourt have been released, a lawyer of their shipping company said on April 25.
Fehmi Ülgener wrote in a statement that the abducted personnel of the ship, ?lkay Olgun, Haluk Buran, Furkan Topcu, Mehmet Babacan, ?ükrü Dömbek and Eray Falay, were set free and in a good health condition.

Turkish ship attacked by pirates, crew kidnapped: Reports
A Turkish ship, the M/T Puli, has been attacked by pirates in Nigeria, resulting in the kidnapping of its six-member crew, according to the Deniz News Agency.
The 148-meter tanker belonging to Kaptano?lu Denizcilik was attacked while it was traveling at 4 a.m. on April 11.
