Prabowo takes office as Indonesian president

Former general Prabowo Subianto was sworn on Sunday as president of Indonesia, seeking a more prominent position on the global stage for the world's fourth most populous nation.

The 73-year-old fiery nationalist, accused of rights abuses during his time in the military, took the oath at parliament to officially succeed outgoing leader Joko Widodo.

Vucic receives Indonesian president-elect

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic received Indonesia's President-elect and incumbent Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto on Monday, noting that Serbia was interested in further strengthening of political dialogue as well as in developing and encouraging economic cooperation and cooperation in all fields of mutual importance.

Indonesia is Moving its Capital

The Indonesian parliament today passed a bill to move the capital from Jakarta to a forested area on the island of Borneo, DPA reported. The decision of the deputies paves the way for the construction of the new city.

The law was approved by most political forces, with only the small Justice and Prosperity Party disagreeing.

Turkey extends condolences over Indonesia plane crash

Turkey extended condolences to Indonesia over Jan. 9's passenger plane crash near the capital Jakarta.

"We have learned with great sorrow that a passenger airplane flying from Jakarta to the city of Pontianak in Indonesia crashed shortly after takeoff today, resulting in the loss of lives of more than 60 people," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
