Top court orders state to compensate Agos columnist
Turkey's Constitution Court has ordered the state to pay Baskın Oran, the columnist of Turkish-Armenian weekly Agos, 27,000 Turkish Liras (around $4,400) in spiritual damages due to a lack of an inadequate investigation into the death threats that Oran had received.
Probe launched into Turkish political scientist over 'making terror propaganda'
An investigation has been launched into Turkish political scientist Baskın Oran on charges of "making terror propaganda" in an article titled "Tragicomic experiments on Kurds," daily Cumhuriyet reported on Aug. 25. The lawsuit was reportedly opened upon a complaint from Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.
Turkish newspaper to pay compensation to former CHP MP
Pro-government Turkish daily Ak?am has been sentenced to pay 6,000 Turkish Liras in compensation to former Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Umut Oran for publishing a manufactured story alleging an assassination plot against President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an's daughter, Sümeyye Erdo?an, which they had claimed involved Oran, daily Cumhuriyet reported on April 20.
