A fisherman who kicked and punched a rare shark before releasing it back into the wild in the coastal town of Erdek in the northwestern province of Balıkesir has been handed an administrative fine.

A 12-year-old boy in the Marmara province of Balıkesir has become a social media phenomenon after posting videos of him explaining animals he finds in his village on his YouTube channel.

A suspect was detained by police on Aug. 13 over a forest fire which caused injuries and damage on the Marmara Island off the coast of the northwestern Balıkesir province on Aug. 12.

Cleaning works will last for at least two months after a 50-ton-fuelled ship stranded in the Çeşme district of the Aegean province of İzmir leaked and polluted its Paşalimanı area and Ilıca-Yıldız Burnu coast, Çeşme District Mayor Muhittin Dalgıç has said. 

Dalgıç said the winter conditions were increasing the spread of fuel over the sea.
