Packaging and packaging waste directive

Seeking to reduce excessive packaging and setting specific reuse targets, the European Council issued a new regulation proposal this week, setting stricter goals on packaging waste and making it fully recyclable by 2030. 

The European Commission on Wednesday said it was referring Romania to the EU Court of Justice for failing to enact revised EU legislation on packaging waste into domestic law.

The revised Packaging Directive updates rules on packaging and packaging waste with a view to reducing their impact on the environment, the Commission said in a statement.
