Social housing plans proceed

The first international tender for the utilization of unused state properties is expected to be launched within the year, with the aim of having residences built by 2025, some of which will be allocated with socioeconomic criteria and a low price to people aged up to 39.

Annual hotel expo moved to November

The organizers of the 100% Hotel Show, the annual exhibition for tourism accommodation professionals, announced that the fair is being moved a week earlier this year.

Held annually at the Mediterranean Expo Center in Paiania in eastern Attica, the event will be held on November 9-11.

Organizers added that it will also be shifting more toward luxury tourism.

Coach crashes into utility pole in Paiania, driver slightly injured

A coach bus veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole on Lavriou Avenue in Paiania, eastern Attica, just before 6 a.m. on Monday. 

The 57-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Athens' Evangelismos Hospital for treatment. No passengers were on board at the time of the incident. 

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

14-year-old arrested for child pornography

A 14-year-old was arrested on Friday in Paiania, eastern Attica for distributing child pornography and violating fireworks laws.

Specifically, the minor circulated visual material depicting the sexual life of an underage girl.

During a search of his residence, naval flares and four makeshift packages containing gunpowder with attached fuses were discovered and confiscated.

Demolitions tender for illegal buildings relaunched

A tender for the demolition of 60 illegal structures in different parts of the Greek capital has been relaunched by the Environment Ministry after it failed to attract a bidder in 2019.
The 500,000-euro project is intended to clear away 44 buildings that are in violation of coastal zoning laws in areas including the popular seaside towns of Psatha and Porto Germeno.

Fire service inquiry looking into Peania blaze

The Greek fire department's special arson section (DAEE) is investigating the causes of the wildfire that started in the eastern Athenian suburb of Peania early Monday morning and reached Mount Hymettus.

The fire broke out at 3:18 a.m. on Serron Street, where Peania borders with the forest, and was fanned by the strong winds in the area.
