A senior Hamas leader claimed to be residing in Turkey is not in the country, Turkish officials said on Aug. 12, putting a partial end to months of controversy.

A senior Hamas leader is set to arrive in Turkey for a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, amid a flurry of regional contacts made by Hamas that has particularly intensified after the recent nuclear deal between Iran and Western powers.

The United States said on August 11 it has intervened in a lawsuit against Palestinian authorities over attacks in Israel that killed and injured Americans, arguing that a high bond could compromise the Palestinians' financial stability.  

Israel arrested several suspects on August 9 in raids linked to the firebombing of a Palestinian home in the West Bank that killed an 18-month-old child and his father, police said.

No doubt, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has an absolutely legitimate point when he says that the Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK) is a terrorist organization. His complaint is also perfectly legitimate that a pro-Kurdish political party with parliamentary seats equal to that of a nationalist Turkish party meticulously refrains from saying what the PKK is.

Israel's security cabinet approved on August 2 the detention of  citizens suspected of waging violence against Palestinians without trial in a crackdown aimed at capturing the perpetrators of a lethal West Bank arson attack blamed on Jewish militants.
