Papachristou takes gold in Berlin

Bagging Greece's fourth medal at the European Championships in Berlin, Voula Papachristou took gold for her 14.60 m triple jump on Thursday.

Papachristou dedicated her winning leap to the victims of last month's deadly fires in Attica by pointing to a black ribbon that she wore.

Her medal was the third gold for the Greece at the event.

Papachristou, a European bronze medalist, was not in the best of form on the day and failed to make the triple-jump final, managing only 13.40 meters and 13.75 meters - way below the 14.20-meter threshold needed.
