A Thessaloniki businessman has unveiled plans to plant a new forest in a northern suburb of the city.

Under the plans, presented by Stavros Andreadis to the mayor of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Aslanidis, 300,000 trees will be planted on site of 300 hectares in the Efkarpia district.

"Thessaloniki is changing its face and I believe that this is one of the reasons why it is gaining its own distinct development dynamics," said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, visiting the former "Pavlos Melas" army camp, which is being transformed into a metropolitan park.

A Christmas event will take place on December 19 and 20 at Meteora neighborhood in Thessaloniki sponsored by Municipality of Pavlos Melas.

Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a complete Christmas spectacle without any cost except for donating dry and canned foods to the basket of social solidarity.

The words chiselled on a plaque outside a derelict neoclassical house at 50 Tatoi Street, Kifissia, state: “Pavlos Melas left from here to go to Macedonia in 1904.”
