A driver hit and killed a child on a pedestrian path in the center of Sofia.
Witnesses to the incident told BNT that shortly after 9 p.m., a boy was crossing the pedestrian crossing on "General Gurko" and "Tsar Ivan Shishman" streets when he was swept away by a speeding car.

NYT: Toronto Van Driver Kills at Least 10 People
TORONTO — The killing began on a busy lunchtime thoroughfare in Toronto on Monday when a white rental Ryder van ran over a pedestrian crossing the street — then mounted a sidewalk and began plowing into people indiscriminately.
"One by one, one by one," said a witness who identified himself as Ali. "Holy God, I've never seen such a sight before. I feel sick."

80% of Pedestrian Crossings across the Country Do not Meet the Requirements
There is no effective sanction mechanism for those who have committed violations, said Sotir Tsatsarov. He noted that such inspection of the pedestrian crossings was carried out for the first time. According to him, the results show defects and serious violations of the legislation.
Inspections of Pedestrian Crossings Begin across the Country
An Inspection of pedestrian crossings will be carried out across the country, Bulgaria's chief prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov said at a Ministry of Interior briefing on 21st of December. Tsatsarov added the inspection was initiated by the Prosecutor's office and will be assigned for implementation to the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Regional Development.

A police officer in the southern town on Nis on Thursday morning drove into a group of children on their way to school.
The officer, 30-year-old M.K., caused the traffic accident at around 07:00 hours CET on a crosswalk at the corner of Tsar Konstantin Blvd. and Nisavska St.

Bulgaria Police Arrest Car Driver Who Ran over Child and Fled
Police have detained the driver of a car which hit and killed a boy crossing a boulevard in the city of Burgas on Saturday and fled the site, 24 Chasa newspaper reported.
The 21-year old man, a resident of Burgas, was driving a BMW 320i car that ran over the eight-year old boy on Todor Aleksandrov boulevard.
Varna Introduces Stiff Fines For Parking Violations
The municipal council of Bulgaria's coast city of Varna introduced stiff fines for parking violations in the city, reports the Varna Utre website.
The proposal, tabled by Varna Mayor Ivan Portnih, provides for increase of fines for parking on pedestrian crossings, parks, park alleys, playgrounds and pavements.
