Council of State rejects damages claim over inmate's suicide
The country's highest administrative court on Thursday rejected a claim by the family of a man who committed suicide while incarcerated at Ioaninna Prison in northwestern Greece in 2001.
The family was seeking 1.2 million euros from the Greek state in moral damages after their relative, convicted of drug-related offenses, hanged himself in his cell.
10 People were Sentenced to Death in China in Front of an Audience
A court in China sentenced 10 people to death, mostly for drug-related crimes, in front of thousands of people in a stadium before being sent for execution, the British Guardian newspaper writes.
They were executed immediately after the verdicts were handed down in Luffen Prefecture in southern Guangdong province (Canton), 160 km from Hong Kong, state media reported.
Turkey ends solitary confinement of German journalist
German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel, who has been detained at a prison in Istanbul for nine months, is no longer in solitary confinement.

Furlough law upheld in vote
The government on Tuesday rejected an amendment brought to Parliament by New Democracy aimed at scrapping a law passed in 2015 which allows certain prisoners convicted of serious felonies to be granted furloughs.

197 children in prison on terror charges in Turkey
Some 197 children were in prison on terror charges and a total of 2,767 children between the ages of 12 and 18 were in prison in Turkey as of Aug. 1, the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses has stated.

Terror suspect linked to letter bombs remanded again
A 29-year-old man accused of sending a letter bomb to former prime minister Lucas Papademos in May and similar devices to top European officials earlier this year was remanded in custody for the second time in a week on Friday after appearing before an investigating magistrate and denying any involvement in manufacturing or sending the bombs.

UN: 170 Countries Abandoned the Death Penalty
The countries that abolished the death penalty have reached 170. 87% of the death sentences are carried out in four countries. They are Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. These figures were released on Tuesday by the United Nations on the World Day against the Death Penalty - Oct. 10.
