In today's briefing held at the Ministry of Health, Bulgaria's Minister of Health, Prof. Hristo Hinkov, addressed concerns regarding the shortage of certain medicines in the country, particularly insulin. Prof. Hinkov asserted that the perceived shortages and associated drama are exaggerated, emphasizing that the ministry diligently monitors the pharmaceutical market.

Bulgaria's Minister of Health, Prof. Hristo Hinkov, has issued a crucial order prohibiting the export of essential medications, encompassing insulin, blood sugar-lowering drugs, and antibiotics for children. The decision, effective from today, November 2, will remain in place until December 31, 2023, aiming to address the alarming shortage of life-saving medicines.

The situation with the availability of antibiotics in pharmacies is gradually normalizing. A large number of the missing drugs were found in bulk warehouses. This was reported to the Bulgarian National Radio by Nikolay Kostov from the Union of Pharmacy Owners. The problem remains with the lack of several types of insulin and other medications for people with diabetes.

The World Health Organization has announced a scheme to reduce the "overly expensive" price of insulin, BNR reported, citing the BBC. The UN agency wants pharmaceutical companies to produce generic versions of the insulin that it will then test.
