Beyoğlu: After the festival films

Spring is the time for surprises. You wake up one morning and suddenly its spring, the season of festivals! Like spring itself, the International Istanbul Film Festival is suddenly upon us, mingling with the proverbial April showers. But they won't dampen your spirits in the least, as everything from film and theater to music, even jazz, rains down upon you.

Pera Fest counters discrimination

Pera Fest, to be organized under the theme of "art against discrimination," will open on March 21 at Istanbul's Tiyatro Pera. Poems and songs addressing discrimination will be performed during the night.

The 14th edition of the event will host three panel discussions, three short and three feature film screenings and a theater play until March 27.

Writers meet at the British Council

The British Council will organize a meeting of celebrated writers from the United Kingdom and Turkey with their readers.

The first of these meetings will bring together Hanif Kureishi, the screenwriter of the movie "My Beautiful Laundrette," which was nominated for an Oscar award, and Murathan Mungan, another venerated writer, at the Pera Museum on Feb. 18.
