Air-conditioned community centers opening for heat wave
The City of Athens, among other municipalities in many parts of Greece, will be opening eight air-conditioned community centers in different parts of the capital to the general public in response to a heat wave warning.

New Democracy-backed Athens mayor candidate Costas Bakoyannis was late Tuesday confronted by self-styled anarchists while he was having a dinner meeting with municipal candidates at a restaurant in the Athens neighborhood of Petralona.
Four ATMs damaged overnight
Four automated teller machines (ATM) were damaged in Athens overnight, police said Monday.
Shortly after 2 a.m., vandals tried to burn an ATM in Petralona, while another three machines were smashed later in the night in the district of Dafni.

A group of unidentified individuals launched a coordinated attack against 13 stores of a supermarket chain in the region of Attica early Thursday morning, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
Prosecutor asks court to uphold life sentence in Luqman killing
An Athens prosecutor has asked an appeals court to uphold the life sentence for two men convicted in 2014 for the murder of a 27-year-old Pakistani national while he was cycling to work.
Christos Steriopoulos and Dionysis Liakopoulos were convicted to life in prison after stabbing Luqman Shehzad seven times on January 17, 2013, in the Athens neighborhood of Petralona.

A cultural association from Skyros showcases carnival customs of the central Aegean island in an event at central Syntagma Square in Athens on Saturday. With carnival season officially under way, the Athens municipal authority, among others, has organized free events drawing on Greece's diverse local traditions.

Spyros Spyridis, the hundredth victim of Mati fire
Spyros Spyridis clung to life for 145 days at the Greek capital's Evangelismos Hospital, battling injuries sustained in Mati, the area worst hit by last July's deadly fires in eastern Attica. The 73-year-old's first surgery lasted eight hours, but the skin grafts didn't take.

French, German envoys express solidarity with Kathimerini
The ambassadors of France and Germany to Greece, Christophe Chantepy and Jens Ploetner respectively, visited the offices of Kathimerini in Athens Tuesday, a day after a bomb seriously damaged the facade of the building, to express their solidarity with the management and staff at the newspaper and Skai TV, which is also headquartered in the building.
