The Pentagon has denied reports that the US navy has been deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean to protect the operations of ExxonMobil in the area, Turkey's state-run Anadolu agency has reported.

The Pentagon on March 8 denied allegations that the U.S. naval forces were deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to provide protection for the drilling operations of one of America’s largest oil and gas companies.

U.S. President Barack Obama on Dec. 20 designated the bulk of U.S.-owned waters in the Arctic Ocean and certain areas in the Atlantic Ocean as indefinitely off limits to future oil and gas leasing.

The move helps put some finishing touches on Obama's environmental legacy while also testing President-elect Donald Trump's promise to unleash the nation's untapped energy reserves.

The Obama administration dealt a setback to Royal Dutch Shell's Arctic oil exploration plans on June 30, saying established walrus and polar bear protections prevent the company from drilling with two rigs simultaneously at close range, as it had planned. 

Southern California has declared a state of emergency due to two oil spills ranging to a total of 14.5 km.

The oil spills near Santa Barbara were caused after an explosion in an oil platform on Tuesday. Experts express warnings that 2,500 barrels of oil have spilled in the sea.

One more company has expressed an interested in the gas and oil exploration opportunity now opening along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

US energy giant Chevron has yet to complete an assessment of Romania's natural gas potential from shale, and for the moment the company is not leaving Romania as it did other Eastern European countries.
