Exit polls show 9 parties in Parliament; 3 needed to form coalition govt

If initial projections prove true then leftist SYRIZA will have approximately 132 MPs in Greece’s 300-MP Parliament, with conservative New Democracy fielding 79.

Nine parties will enter Parliament if the figures hold up, something that means the front-runner will need two coalition partners, instead of one party, as was the case in January 2015

Pollsters: *Projected* results show SYRIZA 35-30%, ND 33-29% (Watch live)

Leftist SYRIZA party was projected to have a higher probability of a national parliamentary election — the second in 2015 — in the recession-plagued euro zone country on Sunday, according to the first results released at 17.00 GMT.
A party needs approximately 36 to 40 percent of the vote for an outright majority (150+1) in Greece’s 300-MP Parliament.

Nearly 10 million Greek citizens will be going to the voting booths on Sunday, September 20, to decide who will govern them for the next 4 years. Voters will send 300 representatives to the Greek Parliament. 288 of these will be directly chosen by the electorate, while the remaining 12 are calculated based on the aggregate number of votes parties receive across the country.

Proto Thema poll: Slim SYRIZA lead, eight parties in Parliament

An opinion poll commissioned by Proto Thema, Greece’s best-selling newspaper, shows a razor-thin lead for leftist SYRIZA over conservative New Democracy and eight (!) political parties entering Parliament.

As with previous opinion polls released over the past week, a “derby” appears in hand for the snap Sept. 20 election.

Another one gone: MEP Sophia Sakorafa leaves SYRIZA

MEP Sophia Sakorafa, who had been elected at the European Parliament under the SYRIZA ballot, announced she would leave the leftist party in a statement released Friday. The former champion javelin thrower and close friend of Zoe Konstantopoulou is the second MEP that leaves SYRIZA after Nikos Chountis had joined the new Popular Party.

New poll shows New Democracy leading over SYRIZA

An online poll conducted by three post-graduate students of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the period August 31 – September 2 shows New Democracy leading by one point over SYRIZA.

According to the online survey, the Independent Greeks (ANEL) party fails to enter the Parliament.

The results of the new poll are the following:

ND 24.6%

SYRIZA 23.6%
