Prominent journalist Hasan Kılıç dies aged 79
Senior journalist Hasan Kılıç, a former employee of Hürriyet and the Turkish Journalism Association (TGC) member, has died at the age of 79 on Dec. 18.
Kılıç, who worked at Hürriyet for 34 years, died of a heart attack.

Two-meter-long Ramadan pita sold by auction
A baker in the eastern province of Kars sold a 2.20-meter pita, with "Stay at Home Turkey" written on top of it using poppy and black seed prepared for the holy month of Ramadan.
Bakery owner Mustafa Kaya, who made the Ramadan pita with a dough weighing about 14 kilograms, said that he prepared such a thing in order to raise awareness to coronavirus measures.

State admits souvlaki price is set to rise
The Economy Ministry has reacted to reports about an upcoming 10-15 percent increase in the retail price of souvlaki, a popular Greek fast food item comprising grilled pork wrapped in pita bread, saying that the rise in the price of pork has not exceeded 1-2 percent at the moment, but it might tick up further due to a meat shortage in China.

Times study sends Greeks wild over cheese sex: Twitter buzzes with #tyropita!
The Times report to a reported study that found that Greek students sell their bodies for tyropita (a type of layered cheese puff pastry) went wild on social media even after professor Gregory Lazos denied the article.
Greeks viewed the erroneous reportage with good humor and without underestimating the value of the mouth-watering humble tyropita.
