Nationalist Ataka Refuses Government Talks With GERB

As expected, the left-nationalist party Ataka refused to have government consultations with the centre-right GERB.

According to the party leader Volen Siderov, the Ataka representatives tried to contact the GERB with a demand for live television broadcast of the negotiations, but did not receive an official response and cancelled the consultations.

PES Leader Stanishev Wants his MEP’s Immunity Lifted ASAP

Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Party of European Socialists (PES), has said he will insist that he be stripped of his immunity from prosecution on the basis of his status as an MEP as soon as possible.

Stanishev stated his opinion on Facebook in response to an earlier announcement by Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov that he would demand his MEP's immunity.

GERB Struggles to Assemble Allies in Bulgaria

Boyko Borisov's GERB party is struggling to assemble a working majority in parliament after winning most votes in Bulgaria's general elections on October 5.

Rumen Yonchev, from Bulgaria without Censorship, said his centrist coalition will offer "preliminary support" to the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB.

Prosecution To Demand Stripping of Immunity of Siderov, Tsvetanov, Stanishev

Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov will demand the stripping of the immunity of the Ataka leader Volen Siderov and the GERB deputy leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Tsatsarov told journalists.

He will also request the stripping of immunity of former Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Sergei Stanishev who is currently an MEP.

A new government will be set up because otherwise Bulgaria will not be able to update the budget, caretaker Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki said.

In what was described as Bliznashki's last interview as PM, he voiced his hope that parties would overcome swiftly overcome their differences to take part in the future government.
