Sudan's warring forces battled Friday with heavy gunfire and explosions in the capital Khartoum and elsewhere in the country, as they ignored appeals by world powers for an end-of-Ramadan ceasefire.

Fighting in Sudan raged for a second day Sunday after battles between rival generals in control since their 2021 coup killed at least 56 civilians and wounded hundreds more people, sparking international alarm.

Sudan's security forces dispersed demonstrators and rounded up more than 100 people on Nov. 7 in the capital of Khartoum, in the latest crackdown on pro-democracy protesters after last month's military coup.

Sudan’s interim prime minister and a number of senior government officials were arrested

Sudanese officials say military forces have detained at least five senior government officials, and the main pro-democracy political group has called on people to take to the streets to oppose an apparent new military coup, according to Britain's The Guardian.

Turkish and Sudanese cooperation committees have discussed bilateral relations for the first time since the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir on April 11.

Sudanese protesters April 28 welcomed a breakthrough in talks with army rulers who agreed to form a joint civilian-military council, paving the way for a civilian administration as demanded by demonstrators.

Three protesters died after police broke up an anti-government demonstration in Sudan, police said on Jan. 10, as thousands chanted support for President Omar al-Bashir at a rival rally in Khartoum.

Six demonstrators were killed in eastern Sudan on Thursday, a local official said, during clashes with riot police on the second day of protests over the rising price of bread, AFP reported.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said he was temporarily suspending the return of migrants to Sudan. This decision is made because of the doubts that the returnees were beaten, tortured and deprived of their liberty.
