Vojvodina assembly adopts amendments to provincial statute

NOVI SAD - The assembly of Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina on Wednesday adopted the proposed amendments to the provincial statute, which are also to be discussed in the Serbian parliament on Friday.

Ninety-nine out of the 120 assembly members voted for the amendments, with six voting against.

BELGRADE -- Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojković has said that the new draft of the Statute of Vojvodina does not diminish the province's autonomy.

This official from the ranks of the ruling Progressives (SNS) added that the draft should be presented to MPs on Friday.
