The port of Piraeus is back in 4th place in Europe
Piraeus ranked 4th in 2023 – up from 5th in 2022 – among the top 15 container handling ports in Europe, from which a total of 72.5 million TEUs were handled, according to PortEconomics.eu.
It surpassed the port of Valencia, while the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Hamburg are in the top three.

Türkiye's ports handle over 313 mln tons of cargo in 7 months
Turkish ports handled 313.3 million tons of cargo in the first seven months of this year, up 2.7 percent from last year, and 7.9 million TEUs of containers, marking a 9.5 percent increase.
ThPA reports fiscal year 2023 performance growth
Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (ThPA) has announced performance growth based on the financial results for the fiscal year 2023.
Following the approval of the Annual Financial Report from the Board of Directors on Wednesday, it announced that consolidated revenue for 2023 was increased to 85.9 million euros, from €85.3 million for 2022.

Danish shipping giant Maersk said on Nov. 3 that it would slash 3,500 jobs as net profit and revenue plunged in the third quarter due to a sharp fall in freight rates.
Maersk's net profit nosedived to $521 million between July and September against $8.9 billion a year earlier.

Green transition to raise Piraeus Port costs
Growth in container traffic at the port of Piraeus has slowed down. The fast pace at which it expanded since Chinese state-owned Cosco Shipping leased two docks in 2009 - before eventually becoming the port's majority shareholder - appears to be a thing of the past.
