Piraeus Port revenue climbs to record highs in first half of 2024

Piraeus Port Authority SA (OLP) registered a rise in revenues and profits in the first half of 2024, once more achieving the best returns historically for the specific time period.

Total revenues for the first half of the year came to 107.1 million euros compared to €102.4 million in the same period in 2023, an increase of €4.7 million, or 4.6%.

Authorities investigate container of chemical substances at Piraeus port

Greek authorities are scrutinizing a container of chemical substances discovered at the Attica port of Piraeus.

Customs officials have detained the cargo for ten days, Kathimerini understands. The substances could be used for military purposes, with intelligence from foreign security services prompting the seizure.

The port of Piraeus has so far weathered the impact of the Red Sea attacks, but will not be able to do so for much longer, ratings agency DBRS Morningstar warns, as it is expected to take a significant blow with a reduction of 30% or more in cargoes over the next period, due to container shipping giants stopping or changing their routes.
