British author Salman Rushdie said on May 23 he was back at his writing desk after being repeatedly stabbed at an event last year in the United States.

Rushdie returned to Britain to be formally invested as a "Companion of Honor" - an exclusive royal accolade whose ranks are capped at 65 members.

The British Council will organize a meeting of celebrated writers from the United Kingdom and Turkey with their readers. 

The first of these meetings will bring together Hanif Kureishi, the screenwriter of the movie "My Beautiful Laundrette," which was nominated for an Oscar award, and Murathan Mungan, another venerated writer, at the Pera Museum on Feb. 18.  

Famous "Islamism expert" Oliver Roy's latest book, "En quête de L'Orient perdu" (In Search of the Lost Orient), did not provoke enough of the debate and criticism that it deserved, especially these days when we all talk and write about Islam and Islamism with reference to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
