Power outage

Pacific Gas and Electric has shut down more than half a million customers in Northern California, the largest planned power outage in U.S. history, Associated Press reported.

Power supply is gradually being restored on the Saronic island of Poros a day after a power outage caused by a deadly helicopter accident.
Authorities have installed seven backup generators to provide electricity until power supply is fully restored.

An extensive but brief power outage that affected mainly western Athens on Tuesday morning was the result of a human error, said Greece's electricity grid operator ADMIE.
ADMIE said high voltage transmission lines were turned off at 11:35 a.m. at the public power utility's (PPC) substation at Rouf.

"All customers are back in service, we will focus on investigating the cause of the equipment failures and on getting the electrical-delivery system back to its normal level of reliability.", the energy company Con Edison company shared on Twitter.

Six villages in the area of Bansko ski resort have been without power supply for 5 days as the heavy snowfall in the area had brought down powerlines. Teams of the power distribution company are working to make repairs, reports BNT. 

The power went out in parts of the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes on Saturday due to a technical failure.

According to local reports, there was a total blackout at both of the island's power plants due to a serious network failure.

This is the second power failure Rhodes has experienced in two weeks, after a similar incident last Friday.

Hydra's mayor said he expects the island's water and electricity supply to be restored on Monday afternoon, two days after a power outage brought chaos to the island.

"The water and electricity supply on Hydra island will be fully restored in the afternoon thanks to two temporary solutions," Giorgos Koukoudakis told state-run news agency AMNA.

The Environment and Energy Ministry said power has been restored in half the areas of the Greek capital affected by the blackout earlier on Wednesday, while the rest of the grid will be back in operation in the next couple of hours.

Taiwan said on Aug. 16 it was investigating a massive power blackout that hit businesses and residential homes, affecting close to seven million households on the heavily industrialized island amid sweltering heat.

The city of Kavala and its surrounding area in northeastern Greece were without electricity for around two hours late on Sunday night. The power outage was caused by an explosion at a Public Power Corporation transformer shortly before midnight.

A small fire broke out after the blast but it was quickly brought under control.
