The President of the Senate, Anca Dragu, during a teleconference on Thursday with the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain, María Pilar Llop Cuenca, discussed her project regarding the fight against domestic violence and physical abuse facing women in Romania.

Senate Vice President Robert Cazanciuc on Thursday took over from his Social Democrat colleague the Titus Corlatean the position of Senate President.

Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced on Monday, in plenary session, his resignation from office, which he held for 5 years. "I did not cling to this position. (...) I will continue to involve myself politically," said Tariceanu, in the Senate's plenary session. "Today is my last day as Senate President of Romania.

The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate are starting today their second ordinary parliamentary session of the year. In the first meeting of each chamber, a new composition of their standing bureaus is elected, including their deputy chairs, secretaries, and treasurers.

Chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) Calin Popescu-Tariceanu believes that his party is not "umbilically tied to the governance," underscoring that he doesn't care about his Senate President office. "Despite the fact that I have the feeling of a political responsibility, me and my colleagues, we are not umbilically tied to the governance.

President of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu Tariceanu on Thursday and Friday took part in the 16th meeting of the Association of European Senates in the Hague, the Senate reports in a press release.
