After Macron Tested Positive for Covid-19, Several European Leaders in Self-Isolation

French President Macron was tested for Covid-19 after symptoms first appeared. He would go into isolation for seven days, the Elysee Palace said, without providing further details on the nature of the president's symptoms.

The office of Macron's wife Brigitte Macron told dpa that she was considered a close contact but hasn't shown any symptoms so far.

Mitsotakis prepares for Paris visit

Ahead of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' arrival in Paris on Thursday for talks with President Emmanuel Macron, Greek and French officials were on Tuesday hammering out the details of his visit's agenda.

According to reports, Mitsotakis and his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotaki will be received at the Elysee Palace by Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. 

French officer accidentally fires during Hollande's speech

A police sharpshooter accidentally fired his weapon during a speech by French President Francois Hollande and two people were slightly injured, the top official of France's Charente region said on Feb. 28.

Pierre N'Gahane said the incident occurred while Hollande was inaugurating a new fast train line in the western town of Villognon.

France's Hollande says will not seek re-election

French President Francois Hollande dramatically announced Dec. 1 he would not seek re-election next April at the end of his five-year term as he bowed to historic low approval ratings.

The withdrawal means the 62-year-old Socialist will be the first president of France's fifth republic, founded in 1958, to quit after just one term.

France's Hollande Not to Seek 2nd Term

French President François Hollande announced on Thursday he would not look for another term of office.

Amid historically low approval ratings, the Socialist leader said in a televised address he would "not be a candidate" in the vote next year.

Hollande thus became the first President not to seek reelection since the Fifth Republic was established in 1958.
