Buckingham Palace said on April 9 that Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died aged 99.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth was in crisis talks on March 9 after Prince Harry and his wife Meghan lifted the lid on life inside Buckingham Palace with an explosive interview that reverberated around the world, local media reported.

The Duke of Edinburgh has an infection and is not expected to leave hospital for several days, Buckingham Palace says.

He has spent seven nights at the King Edward VII's Hospital in central London so far.

He is "comfortable and responding to treatment", the palace said.

The Duke of Edinburgh is giving up his public duties from the autumn, Buckingham Palace has announce, Sky News reported.

The palace said Prince Philip, who turns 96 next month, had taken the decision with the "full support" of the Queen.

The news was announced at an “emergency meeting” with all senior staff and aides at the palace this morning.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision, The Duke has the full support of The Queen.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth will step down as patron from a number of national organizations in the coming months after she turned 90 in April, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Dec. 20.

Elizabeth, the world's longest-reigning living monarch, will pass her patronage of dozens of charities, academic institutions and sporting groups to other members of the royal family.
