Parents want private schools’ fee hike to be audited
As some private schools exceed the 65 percent ceiling fee increase rate determined by the Education Ministry for the new year or go for exorbitant price increases for additional services such as meals and books, parents demand schools to be audited.
Student numbers at private schools rise in 2017-18
Private secondary schools in Greece saw a 3.2 percent increase in student enrollments in 2017-18 compared to the previous year, according to data released Thursday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
More specifically, the number of students increased from 14,843 in the 2016-17 academic year to 15,311 a year later.

The Bulgarian State Grants BGN 315,000 for Scholarships for Gifted Children
The Government approved additional costs / transfers of BGN 315 360 for the payment of scholarships under the Program of Measures for Protection of Children with Proven Talents from State, Municipal and Private Schools in 2019.

Private schools gain ground as parents invest in education
Despite Greece's financial constraints, registrations at private schools in 2018-2019 are up by 10 percent compared to last year, the chairman of the Association of Private Schools, Haralambos Kyrailidis, has said.
The rise in demand for private schools has reversed a six-year decline in registrations, from 82,000 students in 2009 to 67,000 in 2015.

Private schools see student numbers shoot up, data show
The number of students enrolled in Greece's private middle schools has shot up from 5,912 in the 2015-16 academic year to 9,189 this year and in private high schools from 10,921 to 12,068, data presented by New Democracy's shadow minister for eduction showed on Monday.

A circular issued on Thursday by Education Minister Nikos Filis which, he says, aims to target undeclared labor and safeguard teacher jobs at private schools, has been met with vehement opposition, as critics say it will essentially lead to a ban on extracurricular activities available at private schools.

‘Independent Schools’ could be an option for the future of Greek education
In an effort to avoid the 23% VAT hike for private schools, a new innovative idea being explored by the government is the creation of ‘independent schools’ that would be governed by an elected board of governors and be privy to the regulations and conditions that apply to state-funded schools.
