Recent polls concur that the socialist PASOK, fresh from a leadership election, is approaching 20% of voting intentions, while the main opposition SYRIZA is hitting new lows ahead of its own contest.

The government feels that its strategy to call PASOK's bluff on its reformist bona fides in Parliament by proposing legislation will work.

A disagreement erupted between the government and PASOK, this time over the ASEP and recruitment, with tensions remaining high. The occasion was the visit made earlier today by Nikos Androulakis to the ASEP, where he met with the chairman and members of the Board.

The PASOK leadership stands against the possibility of changing the electoral law, stressing that a stable electoral system is needed.

A poll released on Friday revealed that the ruling New Democracy (ND)'s lead over PASOK has narrowed to 7.6 points.

The MRB survey for OPEN TV shows New Democracy leading with 21.7%, followed by PASOK at 14.1%. The nationalist Greek Solution party holds third place with 8.5%, while the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) follows closely with 7.5%. SYRIZA ranks fifth with 6.4%.

The voting intention

A poll released Thursday shows significant gains for the opposition PASOK party, which now stands at 19.8%, narrowing the gap with the ruling New Democracy (ND) party, currently at 29.1%.

Metron Analysis , which gives PASOK a 19.8% vote estimate, recorded PASOK’s surge after the internal party ballot and the re-election of Androulakis in the poll presented on the main Mega newscast.
