Controversy erupts over prosecutor’s recommendation in Kolonos pimping case

A prosecutor's recommendations for the chief suspect in the case of an Athens girl, who was sexually abused and forced into prostitution when she was 12 years old, spurred tension in Parliament on Thursday, as a protest rally was planned to take place in the city center.

Prosecutor recommends acquittal on rape charges but pursues conviction for other offenses in Kolonos case

After a months-long procedure conducted behind closed doors, the prosecutor has requested that the judges of a mixed jury court acquit 55-year-old businessman Ilias Michos of charges alleging the rape of a 12-year-old girl in downtown Kolonos district, as well as charges of coercive pimping and collection of prostitution earnings, citing insufficient evidence.

European court slams Greece for naming and shaming HIV-positive sex workers in 2012

The European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday issued a scathing decision against Greece, rapping authorities for breaches of privacy, medical procedure and judicial due process, over a Health Ministry campaign in the spring of 2012 to name and shame sex workers who were found to be HIV positive after being forcibly tested for the disease.

Three arrested in connection with child prostitution ring

Police arrested three people in different parts of Athens on Thursday on suspicion of involvement in a child prostitution ring.

A 31-year-old woman and two men, aged 33 and 55, are suspected of pimping out children under the age of 15 and recording child sex abuse material, among other offenses.

Thessaloniki woman accused of operating illegal brothel

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on charges of running an illegal brothel, state broadcaster ERT reported on Saturday. 

The suspect allegedly ran the unlicensed brothel on behalf of a 61-year-old man, who took the lion's share of the proceeds from its illegal activities, giving her a cut.
