In an effort to avoid traffic jams, many of the travelers who left their cities for Eid al-Fitr vacations are already hitting roads to come home, three days before the end of nine-day-long holiday

Some 23 people were killed in road accidents across Turkey during the first three days of the Eid al-Fitr holiday this year, June 1-3, the Interior Ministry has announced.

People across Turkey on Tuesday celebrated the first day of Eid al-Fitr with many mosques packed for early morning prayers and people hosting friends and families at their homes.

The nine-day-long Eid al-Fitr holiday will cheer the tourism sector in Turkey, with tourism players expecting approximately 2 million local tourists to flood to resorts, creating a financial turnover of 3 billion Turkish Liras ($500 million).

More than nine million local tourists have spent 9 billion Turkish Liras ($1.5 billion) on Turkish resorts in the last nine-day Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday, with Turkish holidaymakers who visited Greece seeing a sharp plunge amid the lira's fall. 

Turkish Airlines (THY) has served over 2.3 million passengers over the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha or the "Feast of Sacrifice" from Aug. 17 to Aug. 26. 

More than 104,000 local and foreign tourists visited the travertine falls of Pamukkale, together with the adjacent ancient city of Hierapolis, in the first eight days of the nine-day Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday, according to tourism representatives.

A quite busy calendar is set for Turkey's economic administration after a nine-day public holiday for Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) with special emphasis on the preparations of the Medium-Term Economic Program (MEP), the public budget for 2019 and the country's 11th Economic Development Plan.

Hundreds of Africans gathered  in the Turkish capital Ankara to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Aug. 22.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and five other NGOs distributed meat from 350 camels and cows among those who are less fortunate in the East African nation of Kenya on Aug. 21, as part of its efforts during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
